On this page you will learn all about Dicopt's vergence training. This mode is intended for patients with amblyopia in the binocular phase who need improve their vergential ranges.

With this mode we help you offer personalized therapy to the needs of each patient.

Dicopt's vergence training is used to work:

Mainly:

  • Convergence
  • divergence
  • Improve the VA of the lazy eye
  • Fusion

Secondarily:

  • Ocular motility (tracking and saccades)
  • Central and peripheral stereopsis

Game of vergences: Endless Plane

It is a 2D game on rails, where a plane automatically moves forward or towards the top of the screen. The objective of the exercise is to hold out for as long as possible avoiding the different obstacles that appear in the form of enemy planes. The base game consists of 3 lanes (left, center and right) where the enemies will be placed in 2 of them, leaving only one free, where our plane has to be placed making movements to the left or right.

The game is only finished once it fails and there is a collision with an enemy plane, while our plane moves faster and faster, which increases the difficulty since there is less time to choose the correct lane to avoid the enemies

Fusion control elements

In order to check if the fusion is maintained or, however, it breaks at some point, 2 enemies have been placed, leaving only one free lane of the three available. Each of these enemies can only be seen with 1 of the eyes, in what would be a small dichoptic effect, like the one in our games for amblyopia. In this way, if the fusion breaks, it is practically impossible to dodge the enemies, since if the exercise sees double or closes one eye, the enemies are not observed correctly and it is not possible to position the plane in the correct lane.

Once the Endless Plane game is selected, this screen will be the first thing we will see, since we must configure the vergence exercise that is going to be carried out.

vergence type:

  • If we want the patient to train convergence or divergence.

Maximum movement distance:

  • Maximum separation to perform while running game modes, where 12 is the maximum or limit value of VR. This value will have a different function depending on the game mode.

Game mode:

  • There are three game modes available that we will detail below. But the main training mode is Loop.

Calibrated:

  • This option adapts the images presented to each eye to compensate for possible phoria the patient.

Calibrated

Using high-contrast concentric circles displayed to each eye, the patient must find a comfortable ortho point by moving these circles apart or closer.

This process should be done the first time the patient is going to use Dicopt for vergencies. With this process, the parameters of the images will be adjusted to adapt them to the possible phorias of the patient.

Once this process is done, the patient will not have to repeat it again as long as they use the same VR viewer and the same smartphone.

The patient can use the left button L1 of command for zoom in concentric circles.

right calibrated vergences

The patient can use the right button R1 of command for Ward off concentric circles.

This is the main mode of vergence training and the most suitable for your patients

  • Step 1: The images of each eye are static at the ortho point.
  • Step 2: The images of each eye begin to move depending on the vergence that you want to work on (convergence or divergence) up to the maximum distance selected (selected value “maximum distance of movement” in the menu).
  • Step 3: The images reach the selected maximum distance and remain still for a few seconds.
  • Step 4: The images return to the ortho point slowly.
  • Step 5: The steps from 2 are repeated until the game ends.

This game mode is the simplest, since it is possible to establish the maximum movement distance, in addition to the fact that after a certain time the elements return to the starting point, in such a way that the view relaxes. Designed to last longer playing the game.

jumping movement

In this game mode, the speed of vergence is trained, since when overcoming an obstacle, the elements immediately move to a new position, so for a period of time they will look double until the merger is carried out. The further you progress in the game, the faster the plane will move, so the time between one enemy and another or between jumps will be shorter. This jumping movement will be carried out within the maximum established in “maximum distance of the movement”.

  • Step 1: The images of each eye are static at the ortho point.
  • Step 2: Once the patient overcomes an obstacle, the images of each eye move to a random position between the ortho point and the value selected "maximum distance of movement" in the menu, taking into account the type of vergence to work on ( convergence or divergence).
  • Step 3: The images of each eye are static in the new position, and they have to merge the image before reaching the next enemies.
  • Step 4: Repeat from step 2 until the game is over.

This exercise is designed to establish the maximum point of separation, both in convergence and divergence, that the user is capable of performing, since the movement of the objects will be taken to the limit. In this case the value “maximum distance of movement” is ignored.

  • Step 1: The images of each eye are static at the ortho point.
  • Step 2: The images of each eye begin to move very slowly until they reach the point of maximum distance that virtual reality allows.
  • Step 3: The image stays here until the end of the game.
